[Solved] Microsoft Basic Display Adapter Issue on Windows 10.Microsoft Basic Display Adapter Driver Update for Windows 11, 10, 8, 7, XP

The Microsoft Basic Display Adapter is software that's built into Windows that provides display and graphics capabilities when software from your hardware manufacturer isn't installed.

To get the best experience from your device, you might need to install software known as a driver from your hardware manufacturer. Typically, you'll get the latest drivers from Windows Update or as part of Windows setup. To see if you're using the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, select the Start button, then in the search box next to Start, type dxdiag. Choose dxdiag. If there's more than one Display tab, check all of them.

Graphics Driver Showing Microsoft Basic Display Adapter? How to Fix It - Thanks for subscribing!

Resolved my issue. Clear instructions. Easy to follow. No jargon. Pictures helped. Didn't match my screen. This includes not-so-fluid animations and other lag issues. When your system finds no drivers installed for your particular graphics card, it uses the default Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver.

Users usually experience this error when they upgrade the operating system on their computer. Windows uses this basic adapter driver to produce graphics on screen until the actual graphics card driver is installed.

However, since your graphics card manufacturer knows your card better than anyone else, your manufacturer can provide you with better drivers that produce higher-quality visuals on your screen. That means you should get the actual drivers from your graphics card manufacturer as soon as you can.

Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. In reply to felucas's post on June 7, Sorry, when I clicked on scan for hardware changes nothing new was added and nothing popped up.

Try doing the same steps, but when you reach the "Action" menu click "Add legacy hardware" and click "next" and choose the options according to the device you want to add. In reply to felucas's post on June 8, I would do that, but the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter isn't in the legacy hardware list. In device manager the GPU should appear as "Microsoft basic display driver".

In reply to Stefan3D's post on June 20, I think that the Microsoft basic display adapter is what I uninstalled. In reply to Stefan3D's post on June 21, It allows you to see all of the devices recognized by your system, and the drivers associated with them. Locate the device and model that is having the issue and double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box. It will Update all of your drivers in just a few clicks, and even backup your drivers before making any changes.

Many Windows 10 users are reporting this problem. In fact, this is not a unique problem for Windows 10 users, it happened on Windows 8. If you look deeper in Device Manager , you will see that the item listed under the Display adapters category is Microsoft Basic Display Driver, as opposed to the name of your graphics card model.

No worries, this problem is not at all hard to fix. Here are 4 fixes that have helped other users resolve the graphics card shows as Microsoft Basic Display Driver issue. You may not have to try them all; just work your way down the list until you find the one that works for you. One of the reasons for this is that Windows has yet to provide you with the proper driver update after your operating system upgrade.
